Eastern Oregon Real Estate

Eastern Oregon makes up a significant portion of the state, in terms of land. The landscape of Eastern Oregon is gorgeous and mysterious, from its northern region’s snow covered peaks to the rolling wheat farms of the Columbia River Plateau. Eastward the Oregon Cascades level out into plateaus and high desert, allowing for spectacular viewpoints which encompass up to six major peaks on a clear day. Eastern Oregon is far less densely populated than the western half of Oregon, being largely made up of rural farming communities. The largest city in Eastern Oregon is Hermiston, Oregon, with 16,745 residents, followed closely by Pendleton, Oregon, with a population of 16,612. The Pendleton Roundup, a yearly four-day rodeo event (one of the ten largest in the nation) draws up to 50,000 visitors to Eastern Oregon from around the United States. LaGrande, Oregon, the third largest city in the region, is home to Eastern Oregon University, founded in 1929 as a school for teachers. Sights not to miss in Eastern Oregon include Wallowa County’s glacial lake, Baker City’s National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center (see actual ruts left by wagon wheels on the Oregon Trail), and the fascinating Painted Hills, laden with fossils from a different age.
